Latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders (SMMT) reveal a 20.5% decline in the total number of new vehicles registered during September 2018. 338,834 vehicles were registered in September 2018, down by approximately 87,000 in comparison to the previous year.
SMMT claim carmakers have experienced “a turbulent first eight months of the year as the market responded to a raft of upheavals, from confusion over diesel policy to VED changes and the transition from existing emissions tests to the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. Over the coming months however, some rebalancing is expected as an increasing range of new models are certified for sale and backlogs ease.”
