Legal Know How
David Combes was a qualified Trading Standards Officer, who for many years ran an investigations unit looking at commercial fraud within the motor industry. He was a prosecutor for Bedfordshire County Council Trading Standards Department and the Consumer Protection Officer for Luton from 1976 until 1984. During this time David became one of five law lecturers providing training for Trading Standards Officers on Trade Description, Weights and Measures, Pricing, Safety, Food, Petroleum, Explosives, Consumer Credit and other Consumer legislation as well as Contract Law, Tort, Commercial Law, Employment Law, Health & Safety Law, Environmental Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law and other relative areas. He also set up and ran the Luton Consumer Advice Centre, which dealt with all aspects of Trading Standards and Consumer Advice. All matters raised which had criminal implications were investigated and when appropriate culminated in him instituting legal proceedings. He was responsible for press releases, TV and Media coverage, the efficient running of the Advice Centre and staff attending Council meetings and reporting to the Luton Borough Council. In 1984 David put all his experience and knowledge to good use and founded 'Lawdata Ltd' his first law firm for the motor trade. Lawdata Ltd provided independent motor dealers with access to legal assistance on Trading Standards and Consumer Law matters. David acted as Chairman and Managing Director from 1984 to January 2001. During this time he was involved in speaking at various seminars and conferences for both Trading Standards and Motor Industry Associations. He also passed his Law Society Finals Examinations for Solicitors but instead of going into practice opted to continue providing legal services to the motor industry. In 2001 David set up Lawgistics Ltd to provide a more comprehensive legal package to a wider spectrum of businesses operating within the Retail Motor Industry. Lawgistics offer assistance on Trading Standards, Consumer, Employment and Health and Safety issues for Vehicle Manufacturers, Franchise Dealerships, Car Supermarkets, Used Car Dealers, Service and Repair Garages and the Bosch Car Service network. David's knowledge and experience of motor trade law was invaluable and this is one of the contributing factors to how Lawgistics have become recognised as the legal firm for the motor trade.
