Some clients may also operate petrol filling stations.  In a recent article from the SE Midlands Trading Standards Branch Newsletter, the problem of attacks on petrol tanks by Microbial Influenced Corrosion was highlighted.

The little blighters feed on contaminated fuel, nutrients derived from fuel additives and contaminated water.  It is a problem mainly in Diesel, Kerosene and Bio Diesel tanks.

As the microbes feed they produce a weak organic acid which can lead to corrosion.  Apparently tell tail signs are cloudy fuel, pump filters blocking and customer complaints.
