It has been announced in the news this morning that the ban on exclusivity clauses in zero hours contracts, has finally come into force.
From today Section 153 of the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015 Act comes in to force and means that if you have any employee on a zero hour contract, you cannot obligate them to work solely for you. This allows for more flexibility within the labour market. There is talk of further reforms on zero hour contracts, however as yet it is not clear what these will be.
We therefore advise any Employers using these contracts to do so with extreme caution and only in situations where you require ad hoc, casual or seasonal workers.
