Some parts of the UK have recently been affected by flooding as a result of the battering given to the country by storm Imogen and the other December/January storms.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been quick to state that although they do not intend to visit premises which have been hit by flooding, employers should not overlook the health and safety issues when looking at how to get their businesses up and running again.
The health and safety risks from flooding are obvious, structural damage, electrical installations being made a danger and the mess that it leaves behind being dirty and potentially contaminated water. You may not have had to contend with extensive flooding but even small amounts of water can create damage and create further risks.
If you have been affected then you can use the link below for a free risk assessment that you can carry out which covers planning, the clean up process and re-occupying the building.

It’s important that you ensure all buildings are structurally safe and this can be done by having checks carried out by a structural engineer. The same applies to electricals, although it may appear that these have not been affected, there could be unseen damage so it’s best to have the entire system checked by an electrician before it is used.
