Working hours for young workers

Employers are required to comply with legal limitations that apply to young workers under the age of 18.

The Working Time Regulations 1998 provide the right for employees under 18 to:

•    At least two consecutive days off per week

•    At least 12 hours of uninterrupted rest within any 24-hour period in which they work

•    A rest break of at least 30 minutes if a shift will last longer than 4.5 hours

•    A limit of 8 hours of work per day and 40 hours of work per week
