For those who don’t know, this year’s ILC fundraiser is called “The Climb” an apt name for the challenge of scaling Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain on earth. This epic venture will take place over a period of 10 days in October with a total of 10 teams from well-known automotive businesses participating to raise a group target of £500,000.

The weekend of 11th & 12th July saw various team members meet in Snowdonia for their first training session. The group included: Zara Ross, Matt Wigginton and Rachel Clift from Ben, Adrian Wallington and Clive McGregor from Marshall Motor Group, Spencer Grinham from Hella, Jim Holder from WhatCar?, Leon Bosch from Partners&, and our managing director, Joel Combes.

The training was led by Jason Rawles from Aspire Adventures.

Jason, an experienced mountaineer who has summited Kilimanjaro 11 times, will be leading the expedition in October and organised this past weekend to mark the beginning of a 16-week programme which the participants will have to undertake to ensure the best chance of climbing to Kilimanjaro’s peak.

On the first day, the team completed a 12 mile hike including reaching the top of Snowdon.

On day two, the team achieved a further 6 miles on steeper terrain and a more rugged path, which gave the team a similar experience to how summit day on Kilimanjaro would feel with aching legs.

The team also took evening classes, led by Jason, on mountain management. They learnt what and how to pack for a hike that will start in the tropical heat of a rainforest and plunge to freezing temperatures as they ascend.

How can you help?

As you can imagine, training to climb Kilimanjaro is mentally and physically challenging for the individuals participating but this challenge comes in two parts, the second being fundraising. Each team has also pledged to use their contacts to raise £50,000 per team. For Lawgistics, this is a large sum that we believe will only be achieved by using a ‘little from many’ approach.

So here are a couple of initiatives that could save you money or raise the profile of your company whilst helping Ben provide life changing support for the automotive industry people who need it the most.
