The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has recently published the details of an employer who has been recently prosecuted for failing to pay their staff the correct minimum wage.
The employer evolved was a Hair Salon, who had failed to pay a member of staff £3,361.22 in minimum wage arrears. The BIS scheme which has been in place since 01 January 2011 forces employers to repay the wage arrears and further could fine employers up to £5000. A costly mistake!
Employers are therefore advised to review staff wages from time to time to ensure the correct rates are being paid. Employers should note the increases coming into force next month (see other updates for more information), and check their rates are all up to date
