Road Safety week 18-24 November 2013 - Avoid Distractions

It would be a rare person who has not been guilty of some distraction while driving which is an admission that we are not fully focussing on our driving.  It could be fumbling for something on a back seat, checking the glove box etc, eating while at the wheel and of course the use of mobile phones.

There is an argument at the moment to ban the use of any phones in the vehicle; we will see how that develops.

However, all employers should ensure they have a policy to prohibit the use of mobile phones, which of course is illegal anyway, and provide hands free facilities for those employees who are expected to keep in touch.  Encourage phone users to store messages and then check them when they can safely do so at rest.
