In the world of the automotive industry, challenges are nothing new. Yet, when Joel Combes, Managing Director of Lawgistics, and Andy Entwistle, CEO of The British Motor Show, joined forces for the Ben Automotive Industry Charity’s #RaceAcrossBritain, they embarked on an adventure that was anything but ordinary.

Contrary to swirling rumors, the duo’s brief silence post-race wasn’t due to any fallout. Instead, it was a testament to their commitment to the cause, diving back into a world of emails and engagements after days of being completely unplugged.

The race was more than a physical journey across Britain—it was a deep dive into the resilience, camaraderie, and boundless support within the automotive community. Starting with an unexpected 6k walk, thanks to a missed bus, Joel and Andy’s adventure was filled with memorable moments, not least of which involved a 6-foot teddy bear, a generous gift from Automotive Compliance Ltd, that accompanied them in a cramped but unforgettable drive in a Ford Mustang to the Angel of the North.

The support from the community was nothing short of phenomenal. Special mentions must go to individuals who went above and beyond. Will Blackshaw offered unmatched hospitality; Colin Bell, the duo’s Scottish savior; Victoria Zolkiewka ensured safety and support in London; Natalia Kepinska, whose efficiency led to a spectacular second-place finish; Kelly Neal for her care; and Ethan Chave, who captured the moments that will tell this story for years to come.

This unique journey, marked by laughter, acts of kindness, and true connections, culminated in a fantastic finish, contributing to over £100k raised for Ben. The event, inspired by ‘Race Across the World’, pushed participants to their limits, covering around 1,300 miles under strict conditions that prohibited smartphones, pre-planned routes, or modern conveniences, relying instead on public transport and their own two feet.

The challenge, proudly supported by LKQ Euro Car Parts among others, showcased not only the participants’ determination but also the widespread support for Ben, the charity dedicated to those in the automotive industry facing hardships. The 27 teams, including part and trade suppliers, embarked from the LKQ Academy in Tamworth, navigating through checkpoints like the Angel of the North and The London Eye, underlining the event’s excitement and the collective spirit of the challenge.

As Joel and Andy reflect on their journey, they extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a part in this adventure. The humor, generosity, and support received have left an indelible mark on their hearts and have significantly aided those supported by Ben.

For those inspired by their story and the cause, there’s still an opportunity to make a difference. Contributions can be made to support Ben’s mission in providing care and support to those in the automotive industry.

This adventure has reaffirmed the unity and compassion that lie at the heart of the automotive community, proving once again that when we come together, we can make a significant impact.
