We can confirm that “the robot told me so” is not yet recognised as a valid legal defence, much as “my sat-nav directed me down the one-way street” has failed to gain traction with magistrates – ensuring our relevance for at least another year before we all lose our jobs to AI.
This democratisation extends far beyond ChatGPT. We continue to educate consumers that the Consumer Rights Act has not materially changed since 2015, despite what celebrity financial journalists declare on breakfast television or business gurus confidently post on LinkedIn between their actual jobs. Similarly, we observe with fascination those who’ve never run a business dispensing business advice, and those who’ve never studied law offering legal guidance with equal certainty.
The fact that any of these sources suggested you’re entitled to something does not render it law.
