We are reaching the start of the summer holidays and employers are perhaps looking for/being pressured to employ young people.
The British Safety council have opened a ‘blog’ with the name ‘Speak up. Stay Safe’, which seeks to help employers taking on young people. There are strict rules for employees seeking to employ young people but the campaign homes in on: - Making information, instructions, training and, of course, supervision for new or temporary workers.
- Assess the risks and take action to eliminate or control the risks. Parents/carers must be informed of the key findings of the risk assessment and control measures.
- Importantly the risk assessment must take into account specific factors including immaturity, inexperience, lack of awareness, medical conditions, physical and learning disabilities of the young worker. |
